Declaration of Snow Emergency
On December 20, 2022 the Town of Draper joined other towns in Sawyer County to declare a State of Emergency related to the snow and ice storm that started December 15th. This Declaration, along with supporting documentation of expenses incurred to respond to the extreme weather event, will be submitted to Sawyer County and the State if Wisconsin for reimbursement.
The snow emergency challenged the town’s ability to handle clearing fallen trees, plowing the roads, and keeping shop operations running. We lost power to the fuel pumps and garage doors, and there was a risk of the town hall pipes freezing. Two generators were purchased to resolve this issue in the future.
The crew worked hard to clear the roads. As of today, the loader, dump truck and pickup plow are broken down and out of service- the only plow left is the grader. Repairs will start Tuesday after Christmas. We are not expecting much more snow and the temperatures warm back up in the next few days.
We had very few complaints- just wanted to let everyone know what an extraordinary strain the past 10 days have placed on the town’s aging equipment and small road crew.
We sincerely appreciate their efforts, and the efforts of a few volunteers who provided much needed assistance to get the job done. Thanks to all who stepped up to help the town!
